NO COMPROMISE. We are the Ban Wagon. We are working people who have come together to take justice into our own hands if no one else will do it. Many other groups working on this issue have decided to support a moratorium, or momentary pause, in drilling. Others feel that drilling should move forward as long as there is a tax on it. Others are too bogged down in bureaucracy to authorize actions. We ask: "If not us, who?"
We feel that we need to distinguish ourselves because we know there will never be a "safe" way to extract gas from shale using "fracking" and the infrastructure that comes with it, not for our health, not for our environment, and not for our economy. Period.
We do not engage in political pandering, not to politicians, not to industry, and not to Big Green organizations who refuse to support our call for a BAN.
We hope, that as our Ban Wagon dares to take action, that other groups will join. There is no time to sit on the fence any longer, or we'll get splinters.
CURE was founded in Pittsburgh, November 2010 as part of a larger effort to pass a ban on hydraulic fracturing in Pittsburgh city limits, which passed 9-0. An action was organized to picket the dumping of Marcellus shale wastewater at the Clairton Municipal Authority on 11/4/10.
